The Kickstarter campaign for Apex Book Company’s Robotic Ambitions: Tales of Mechanical Sentience is now live! Head on over to this link to help us make this anthology happen! We’ve got all sorts of exciting tiers and add-ons to fit your fancy. Just want a few books? Support us at the I/O Access tier and grab some add-ons (including the Kickstarter exclusive anthology Strange Libations: An Anthology of Dark Cocktails, edited by Marissa van Uden)! Want to learn about including robots, AI, and more in fiction? Look no further than Robotic Ambitions co-editor Jason Sizemore’s new class, The Heart of the Matter: Mechanical Sentience in Science Fiction!
In addition to everything offered in the Robotic Ambitions Kickstarter, we’ll be livestreaming all day with the editors, featured authors, and Apex staff over at our brand new Twitch channel! Click here to join the fun, and give us a follow while you’re at it – that’s where we’ll be streaming future events, including Happy Hour and Snap Judgment. Today, we’ll be talking with the Robotic Ambitions co-editors, hosting chats and readings with our anchor authors, streaming robotic games, and leading writing sprints.
Today’s stream schedule is as follows, all times in EST:
- 11:00 am: Chatting with Jason Sizemore about the Kickstarter launch.
- 12:00 pm: Chat with anchor author Renan Bernardo.
- 1:00 pm: Chat with anchor author Marie Vibbert.
- 2:00 pm: Chat with anchor author Oghenechovwe Donald Ekpeki.
- 3:00 pm – 6:00 pm: Streaming robotic games (including smashing buildings and things in 100ft Robot Golf) and writing sprints with Apex staff member Will Sobel.
- 6:00 pm: Chat with Lesley Conner.
- 7:00 pm: Chat with anchor author Premee Mohamed.
We will also open a call for submissions for Robotic Ambitions. Assuming it’s funded by then, we will open on March 13th. We are committed to filling half of the anthology slots with the open call, so get your stories ready! Apex pays $0.08 per word. Word count limit is 5,000 and simultaneous submissions are allowed. Full submission guidelines can be found here.
Whether striving to protect the family they’ve chosen, searching for meaning amid the chaos of the world, or questioning what it is that makes one alive, robotic ambition can mean many different things. This anthology will explore the nuance of sentience manufactured and evolved within mechanical beings.
Join us on Kickstarter to help make Robotic Ambitions reality, and join us on Twitch for chats, games, sprints, and more!
