First of all, we want to thank all our backers, subscribers, patrons, and supporters. Without you, the work we do would not be possible. Thank you for supporting Apex Magazine in the past and into the future! We’ve got a ton of exciting things happening in August, including our ongoing Kickstarter. Read on to make sure you don’t miss out!

2023 Kickstarter

On July 27th, we launched our 2023 Apex Magazine Kickstarter to fund the magazine for another year. Our short fiction, nonfiction, cover art, and staffing depends on your support and we hope you’ll join us for another year of strange, shocking, surreal, and beautiful stories. We believe that now, more than ever, genre fiction plays a critical role in making the world a better place.

We have great stretch goals, some chosen by our community, and incredible add-ons including mugs, bookmarks, and a very exciting postcard add-on you won’t want to miss. Head on over to our Kickstarter page to join our campaign!

Issue 132

Issue 132 continues to release on the website. So far we’ve published “Creatures of the Dark Oasis“, by Bonnie Jo Stufflebeam, “Notes to a Version of Myself, Hidden in Symphonie fantastique Scores Throughout the Multiverse“, by Aimee Picchi, “Schlafstunde“, by Lavie Tidhar, “Have Mercy, My Love, While We Wait for the Thaw“, by Iori Kusano, and the nonfiction essay, “Optics“, by Kwame Mbalia. Still to come are original stories from Jennifer R. Donohue and Marie Croke, reprints from Kameron Hurley and Sarah Hans, nonfiction by Michelle P. Browne, and our usual reviews and interviews.

Watch for our new releases at www.apex-magazine.com.

Patreon and Subscription Changes

We recently changed our subscription price. While we kept our legacy tiers intact, as a giant thank you to anyone who joins one of our new Patreon tiers between July 1 and September 1, we’ll be sending the digital ebook edition of our excellent Best of Apex Magazine anthology as a free gift. This anthology of fantasy and science fiction published in Apex Magazine from 2011-2017 includes numerous award-nominated short stories, our readers’ Story of the Year selections, and personal favorites chosen by Apex Magazine chief editors Jason Sizemore and Lesley Conner.

New Look

We recently moved to a cleaner interface on our website with an easier, smoother behind-the-scenes system. There might be a few bugs here and there while we complete the transition. Never fear – our content is rolling out as scheduled!
