Mark Allan Gunnells loves to tell stories. He has since he was a kid, penning one-page tales that were Twilight Zone knockoffs. He likes to think he has gotten a little better since then. How Horror Made Me More Empathetic

Recently, a New Republic article entitled “What It Says About You if You Enjoy Horror Movies” caused a lot of controversy and angered many horror aficionados and creators, including myself. One of the conclusions, and the one that drew the most ire, was that people who enjoy horror movies lack empathy.

Oh, I knew I was…different from an early age, but I had no real concept of sexuality until I was older. However, by the time I was 5 years old I had already developed a deep and abiding love of the horror genre.
