Apex Magazine Cover of the Year 2017

February 14, 2018

Lesley Conner is a writer and managing editor for Apex Magazine. She spends her days pestering book reviewers, proofreading, wrangling slush, doling out contracts, and chatting about books, writing, and anything else that crosses her mind on the @ApexBookCompany Twitter account. Most of her nights are spent with a good book and a glass of wine. Her alternative history horror novel, The Weight of Chains, was published by Sinister Grin Press. To discover all her secrets follow her on Twitter at @LesleyConner.

Time got away from us and we left the Cover the Year 2017 poll open a bit longer than we initially planned to. Not a problem, since that just gave you more time to vote – and vote you did! But all good things must come to a close, and it is time to close the poll and announce our winner.

The Apex Magazine Cover of the Year for 2017 is issue 96!

The cover art is “Hydroponic” by Marcela Bolivar. This was Marcela’s second cover with Apex Magazine (the first is issue 87), and she is also the cover artist responsible for the wonderful artwork on Cry Your Way Home by Damien Angelica Walters. In addition, she’s been working with Jason Sizemore and Lesley Conner to create the perfect artwork for their upcoming anthology Do Not Go Quietly, which they will be running a Kickstarter for this spring.

Congratulations, Marcela! You are an amazing artist, and we here at Apex hope that we will be able to work with you again very soon.
