August has been a great month for Apex! Our Kickstarter reached a final funding of 26,000.00, which means not only is all of 2022 funded but there will be a bonus issue featuring Asian and Pacific Islander writers. Thank you so much to all who backed us!
Heading into September, we have so much in store!
First up is Issue 125, which releases September 7th. With new fiction from Joelle Wellington, Rachel Swirsky, Maggie Slater, D. Thomas Minton, Rose Keating, and Jared Millet, classic fiction from Yohanca Delgado, Tenea D. Johnson, and Jason Sanford, non-fiction from Maria Dong and Ken MacGregor, and this amazing cover from Marcela Bolívar, it's a spectacular issue.
Our September Patreon Book of the Month is The Apex Book of World SF: Volume 1, edited by Lavie Tidhar. That will go out to our bookish aliens the first week of September. Keep an eye out for an interview with the editor on September 8th!
From Apex Books on September 21, Plague Birds by Jason Sanford releases. Paperback pre-orders from Apex will receive 20% off the MSRP along with a signed bookplate of the cover jacket! All ebook preorders will receive 20% off the MSRP.
Plague Birds is the epic tale of a young woman betrayed into becoming one of the future’s hated judges and executioners, with a killer AI bonded to her very blood. A genre-bending mix of science fiction and dark fantasy, Plague Birds is Jeff VanderMeer's Dead Astronauts meets the Murderbot Diaries by Martha Wells. Weird and epic and dark.
To celebrate the release of Plague Birds, the author will be joining us on the Apex Discord on September 29th for an AMA. Subscribers, backers, and patrons can join our Discord by emailing our Discord Boss at [email protected] Join us to ask Jason Sanford about reading, writing, science fiction, and killer AIs.
That's about it for September with Apex, but there's always fun happenings on the Discord like games, writing discussions, Lesley's Lawless Book Club, and more.
